Introduction:
The interview is a crucial time wherein you show your skills and qualifications. Beyond these factors the words you speak, communication, confidence in your talk, and confidence in your body postures all together play an important role in leaving an impression on the recruiter or interviewer. In this blog we will see some essential tips and techniques to master the art of communication, interaction, and body language during interviews, thus ensuring you stand out during the race of an interview.
i. Prepare and Research: Before the interview thoroughly researches the company. Visit the company's social media handles research its values and thoroughly understand the role you applying for. This will give you the confidence to have a meaningful conversation during the interview. Understand companies' mission, achievements, and trends. This will enable you to ask some relevant questions which makes the interviewer feel that you are genuinely interested in the position.
ii. Communication: Maintain good posture, make eye contact, and offer a firm handshake when greeting the interviewers. Show that you are listening to the interviewer’s conversation by nodding your head, smiling, and providing some verbal affirmatives. Facial expressions convey enthusiasm and attentiveness. Choose your words wisely, and carefully. Speak clearly and maintain a proper pace in what you speak. Do not rush while you speak. Use professional language and avoid slangs that may confuse the interviewer. Avoid using complicated words. The interviewer doesn’t judge you based on using complex words. Demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role through the tone of your voice and with a positive attitude.
iii. Listening: Proper communication should be two-way communication. Be an active listener to the interviewer’s questions and respond accordingly. Avoid interrupting their sentences. Active listening shows respect and an interest in understanding the interviewers’ perspectives.
iv. How to answer some questions: Some questions require you to share some examples that may be from your experience. E.g. your interviewer asks if can you tell a mistake you made at work and your corrective measures. For such questions do not answer I haven’t done any mistakes. We, humans, tend to make mistakes. By such questions, interviewers want to check your corrective measures and how you handled that situation. So upfront explain it with an example. Use a proper structure while answering such questions like explaining the situation. Explain your action item. Explain the outcome generated. Highlight the positive results you achieved in it or the lessons you learned. This will help the interviewers to understand your problem-solving skills and abilities.
v. Build a positive vibe: Create a positive connection with your interviews. Be friendly. Do not go overboard and try to be over-friendly. Show appreciation for their time and express genuine curiosity about the company culture.
vi. Manage your nervousness: Interviews can be nail-biting but it’s necessary to manage yourself and boost your confidence. Calm yourself. Practice deep breathing techniques before the interview to calm your nerves. Remind yourself of the value you can bring to the table.

Check articles if available through specific publications. Practice a mock interview. You can take some help from your friends or family for this mock interview if necessary. Plan your travel such as how long you will take to reach the schedule and how you will travel, and so on. Check for your interview outfits. Ensure that it's job specific. Check if it's clean and pressed. Get all your certifications, copies, and necessary cards together. Ensure you are carrying multiple copies of your resume. Get a proper night's sleep.
On the day of the Interview: Leave home early. Try to reach the interview location about 15 to 20 minutes early. Keep your phone ringer on silent. Avoid chewing gums. Also, avoid eating or drinking when in an interview. Be polite and friendly to all office staff you meet. Greet the interviewer with a smile on your face by shaking his or her hand, and introduce yourself. Listen and interact with your interviewers. Have a smile on your face. Be aware of your body language. Answer all questions honestly. Ask questions that you have prepared related to job and company specifics. Avoid talking about vacations on the day of the interview.
